Weight: 30% of your overall grade.


Task Description: Special Event Management Proposal. Individual; 2,000 words


YOUR TASK:

Working individually or with another member of the group, you are required to write a proposal for a special event that you will organize as a new offering in Samarkand on a date decided by you as the Event Planner.

The proposed event is to be scheduled for delivery on one day during the end of semester (January, 2022). The proposed event is to be staged on site of Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage and is to be particularly targeted towards current undergraduate students.


REQUIREMENTS:

1. 
   Your event should begin with an introduction to the key elements of this plan, a main body, a justification for the event and finally a conclusion.
   
2. 
   You are to also provide a one-page summary of the program festivities which is often referred to as a “Run Sheet”.
   
3. 
   If you wish to include information relating to a key performer/group/spokesperson etc. this can be added as appendices.
   
4. 
   Sub-headings throughout the proposal are to be encouraged.
   
5. 
   Every event should be unique You are NOT to utilise a current event that is held in Samarkand such as Navruz or any other city or region. The intent of the exercise is to develop a Special Event to be staged at Silk Road. Proposals that copy or simply replicate what is already being conducted by another organisation will not receive a passing grade.
   
6. 
   Students are expected to utilise their knowledge of event types and provide a considered justification for the event (and site) chosen at the Silk Road Campus. The venue can be indoor or outdoor or both.
   
7. 
   The length of the proposed event must be a minimum of three hours and be no longer than one full day (12 hours) in total duration.
   
8. 
   An event budget projecting total revenues generated to be a maximum amount of $5,000 is expected.
   
9. 
   APA (6^th Edition) is required when drafting the proposal which must be used consistently throughout the proposal.
   
10. 
    Your proposal is expected to include at least five recent references (< 6 years) that relate to event and attendee characteristics.
    
11. 
    The 2000 word length is a guide…not a word limit…so anything that is reasonable (ala less than 10% more - which equates to about 1 page double spaced) is acceptable. Please allow common sense to be your guide here.

    SOME KEY ELEMENTS OF YOUR PROPOSAL:

    Introduction of plan (approx. 150 words). The relevance of the key points have been identified. Introduction is concise and well expressed.
    
14. 
    Justification of event (approx. 750 words). Why is the event needed? Who will it benefit? Why would local stakeholders support such a proposal?
    
15. 
    Description of event (approx. 1000 words). Type of event e.g., business, sports, cultural or lifecycle). Purpose (e.g., what your event aims to achieve and why). Event objectives (three) - with discussion. Attendees to be targeted. Venue to be chosen. Marketing, operations and financial considerations. Some consideration of event evaluation/monitoring should also be included in this section.

    Conclusion (approx. 100 words): Conclusions are reasonable/relevant to the preceding areas. Key findings/conclusions are logical and well expressed.

    Reference List: A minimum of 8-10 references sources as cited in the body of the proposal document are to be listed. (Not included in word count)
    
18. 
    Tables/Appendices: Used as appropriate to validate/justify your proposal (Not included in word count)
