This can be configured within the existing curb locations of Washington Street to avoid widening the street. WASHINGTON street GOALS 11' 10'

LAWN goAl 2: MEdiAn With tREES With the lane configuration shown above, there is space to allow for an 8-foot wide planted median with trees. While this dimension is more narrow than is customary for medians within arterial roadways, it is still wide enough to enhance the street and reduce the scale of the roadway.
The edge of the street is the most critical component for improving a pedestrian’s experience and beautifying a corridor. By working with property owners as redevelopment or new development takes place, community partners can assist in the decision to include tree lawns, screening, or streetside seating.
While lane configuration, medians and street edges are important, pedestrian lighting and basic furnishings such as waste receptacles and seating are useful and provide aesthetic character to the corridor.
