Treatment for jaundice
A test will be carried out to determine the level of bilirubin in the
blood.
If it is high, the infant will be treated with phototherapy
(exposure to lights) which will turn the bilirubin into a
non-‐harmful substance that will be expelled in the urine. If the
test shows
that the bilirubin is low, then the yellowness will
disappear on its own without any treatment within one or two
weeks.
