![]() EEE 212 TELECOMMUNICATIONS II (3, 0, 3) OBJECTIVE: This course is intended to cover a slightly more advanced theory of the telecommunications systems and should enable students to understand some of the most important reasons behind the operation of communication Networks topics include FM wave in free space, microwave radios in communications, serial systems, receivers, wave guides and cavity resonators.
1. Basic Principles of Microwave Engineering: Microwave and RF Engineering— Distinction between low and RF/MW techniques, various frequency bands in RE/MW Spectrum and applications, Electromagnetic Radiation; Propagation of Waves. Advantages and disadvantages of microwave circuits, attenuators, resonant cavity, directional couplers, isolators and circulators. 2. Transmission line theory - Open, short and terminated transmission lines, Reflection coefficient, VSWR and return loss. Smith Chart, Transmission line types -Coaxial, strip line, micro strip and wave guides, Modes of propagation in rectangular wave guides. Cutoff frequency of wave guide modes and importance of dominant mode of wave guides. 3. Impedance matching: the need for impedance matching, factors that influence impedance matching, matching using L N networks, single stub tuning and quarter wave transformers 4. Microwave Antennas: Definition of aantenna parameters, Classification of antennas, Feeding techniques of simple Antennas, near field and far -field of radiation patterns of antennas, Reflectors, Beam width, effect of side lopes. 5. Antennas for Wireless and Microwave Communication applications: Concept of multi-band. Design of yagi-uda and log -periodic antennas. Noise in microwave receivers. Test instruments for microwave and aerials. 6. Microwave Link Engineering: Friis transmission formula, LOS requirements- Fresnel clearance, Fade margin, General principles of microwave repeaters, Link budget calculation for satellite Communication 7. Principles Of Radar: Radar frequencies, Radar equation, Transmitter and receiver (Block diagram approach), Pulsed, CW, FMCW, MT.', and tracking radars. Download 286,29 Kb.
