Part=Part type – e.g. ‘SUPPL’ in case of supplement (optional) Page=start page number Year=Publication year To link directly into the full text of an article, add &FT=1 to the string. For example, to link to the journal article: RICARDO GOMEZ and JOHN PETERSON. The EU’s Impossibly Busy Foreign Ministers: ‘no one is in control’, European Foreign Affairs Review, 6: 53–74, 2001 you would use the URL: http://www.swetswise.com/link/access_db?issn=13846299&vol=6& iss=1&page=53&year=2001 Some publishers available through Swetswise do not allow access directly to full text, however, and for those publishers you will access an abstract page which easily navigates users to the full text. 156 Case studies and practical examples Westlaw Westlaw (http://www.westlaw.com/) is a major source of electronic journal information and other legal material, including legislation and law reports. However, linking to journal titles and articles is possible: you will need to contact your Westlaw representative for more information. Westlaw have created an article linking tool, which generates a stable URL from the legal citation. This tool is highly valuable and enables academic staff to create deep links into Westlaw so that students can easily find the material they need. Science Direct Science Direct (http://www.www.sciencedirect.com/) is one of the largest collections of science, technology and medical information, containing the Elsevier journal titles with almost 6 million full-text articles. Science Direct are using Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for all their journal articles to allow users to create stable links. The method for linking is very straightforward: 1. Locate the journal article you wish to link to. 2. From the table of contents click on the ‘SummaryPlus’ link. 3. At the top of the page the DOI is available, which will take the following format: Doi:10.1016/s0038-1101(03)00101-1 Cite or link using doi 4. Right click on the link above and ‘Copy Shortcut’. You will now have a stable link to the article which can be pasted into a reading list. For more information about DOIs see the Science Direct website. EBSCO EBSCO (http://www.www.ebsco.com/home/) is an important electronic journal provider in the field of business studies. It is very easy to link to full-text articles available on EBSCO. Do not copy the link from the browser window. Instead, when viewing the citation of an article that you wish to link to, copy the URL from the field labelled ‘Persistent Link to this Article’. A typical persistent or stable URL will look as follows: http://search.epnet.com/direct.asp?An=11502173&db=buh 157 Electronic Resources in the Virtual Learning Environment MetaPress MetaPress (http://www.metapress.com/) is an example of a smaller e- journal provider that is also supporting the OpenURL standard. Using this provider, it is possible to link at journal, issue and article level to these titles. To locate the stable URL of either a journal title, issue or article, use the ‘Linking Options’ link which is displayed in the citation information. You can use the MetaPress Direct Linking method – simply copy and paste the URL into your reading list. Alternatively MetaPress provide an Open URL which can be copied and pasted into your reading list. For example, to link directly to an article in Volume 46, Number 5/2003 of the Academy of Management Journal, you may use: ■ MetaPress Direct Linking: Download 1.99 Mb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
