What about the negative im pacts of tourism ? Candidate: W ell, I've seen areas where large num bers of visitors have had a d e trim e n ta l effect on local habitats. For example, coral reefs in the Caribbean. It's really tragic. The best solution, as far as the w ild life is concerned, would be to ban to u rism fo r a few decades to let the reefs recover, but, of course, the local economy has come to rely on tourism and there would be an uproar if the governm ent were to take that drastic step. Candidate: I think, because my country is not a big to u ris t destination yet, the sm a ll num ber of visitors we get have had only a positive effect.
