participants the opportunity to work collectively and gain
from each other’s experiences in solving problems faced by
their farm businesses. Usually, action-learning workshops
focus initially on identifying problems or opportunities
that are of common interest to most of the participants,
who would benefit from these issues being examined
collectively. These problems and opportunities are
analysed in greater depth with a view to finding solutions
to the problems and strategies to exploit opportunities.
The group could meet on a regular basis or use short
meetings periodically. In between meetings, participants
commit to gathering information and experimenting and
testing some of the ideas discussed by the group. If
the group’s knowledge and experience are not enough,
the facilitator may have the knowledge and experience
needed or could identify and invite someone with suitable
knowledge and experience to work with the group.
