- A judge shall be appointed or elected in accordance with the established procedure for an initial five-year term, another ten-year term and the subsequent indefinite period of tenure.
- The term of office of a judge is calculated on the basis of his total length of service at the judicial office.
- The chairmen of the courts are elected or appointed for a period of five years. The same person can not be elected or appointed chairman of the court in the relevant court for more than two consecutive terms.
- Judges are independent, subject only to the law. Any interference with the activities of judges in the administration of justice is unacceptable and entails responsibility under the law.
- Judges can not be senators, deputies of representative bodies of state power.
- Judges can not be members of political parties, participate in political movements, nor engage in any other types of paid activity, except scientific and pedagogical activities.
- The trial of cases in all courts is open. The hearing of cases in a closed session is allowed only in cases established by law.
- Judicial proceedings in the Republic of Uzbekistan are conducted in the Uzbek, Karakalpak languages or in the language of the majority of the population of the given locality.
- The persons participating in the case who do not speak the language in which the proceedings are conducted are guaranteed the right to fully acquaint themselves with the case materials, participate in judicial proceedings through an interpreter and the right to speak in court in their native language.
