The movement of material objects or a material point occurs in space over time. Kinematics differs from geometry in that in kinematics, the time of movement of objects in space is taken into account. So, in kinematics, the position of objects at an arbitrary moment depends on time, in addition to its geometric coordinates. That is why kinematics can sometimes be called geometry in four-dimensional space. The fourth coordinate is time. Time is such a variable that it does not depend on the space and the object moving in this space, that is, its space changes everywhere. The movement of a material object is observed in relation to another object, that is, a count object. By attaching a coordinate system to the reference object, the movement of the material object is studied in relation to this reference system. The independence of time from motion is that time changes in the same way for bodies moving in relation to different reference systems. When solving mechanical problems, the beginning of the calculation of time is agreed every time. When solving technical issues, a counting system fixed to the Earth is usually taken. A reference system that is fixed relative to the Earth is called a primary or fixed reference system. If the position of the body relative to the selected reference system does not change over time, the body is said to be at rest relative to the selected reference system. If the position of the body changes over time relative to the selected reference system, the body is said to be in motion relative to this reference system. If it is possible to determine the position of the body at any time relative to the selected reference system, its movement is said to be given relative to this reference system. The movement of a solid body is determined by the movement of its constituent points (particles). That is why point kinematics is studied first, then solid body kinematics. Displacement and movement are the main concepts of kinematics. The voluntary transition of a point from one position to another in space in relation to a number system is called its displacement. The displacement of a point is determined by its initial and final states and the elapsed time.

  • Kinematics (Greek: kinema - motion) is a branch of mechanics. He studies the geometrical properties of body motion without taking into account the forces that create the body's motion. According to the properties of the studied object, it is divided into point, solid body, deformable body, adjacent medium (gas, liquid, elastic body). Usually, K. is an additional tool in the study of dynamics. The main task of K. of a point and a solid body is to determine the movements of a point or a solid body relative to a specific reference system (the position of a point relative to the reference system is determined by coordinates) and the connections between all kinematic classifications of movements.
