  1. The early development of Oratory in Greece

Orator-late 14c., oratour, "an eloquent or skilled speaker; one who pleads or argues for a cause," from Anglo-French oratour (Modern French orateur) and directly from Latin orator "speaker," from ōrare "to speak, speak before a court or assembly, pray to. The art of swaying an audience by eloquent speech. In ancient Greece and Rome oratory was included under the term rhetoric, which meant the art of composing as well as delivering a speech. Oratory first appeared in the law courts of Athens and soon became important in all areas of life. It was taught by the Sophists. Greece.The Orator, c. 100 BCE, an Etrusco-Roman bronze sculpture depicting Aule Metele (Latin: Aulus Metellus), an Etruscan man wearing a Roman toga while engaged in rhetoric; the statue features an inscription in the Etruscan alphabet. Although there is evidence of public speech training in ancient Egypt, the first known piece on oratory, written over 2,000 years ago, came from ancient Greece.



  1. The Art of Oratory in the East: Mevlana Jalaliddin Rumi

Mevalan Jalaliddin Rumi begins his famous collection of “Masnavi” – one of the most important influential and widespread work. Rumi is known in Iran as Jalaliddin Muhammad Balkhi (relating to the place of his birth) He was born on Sept. 30, 1207. His father nicknamed the “The Sultan of the Scholars”. Western Orientalists had a great influence in introducing Rumi to the Western world.British Orientalist Reynold Alleyne Nicholson was one of the first to translate Rumi’s works when he translated selections from the book “Shams of Tabriz” in 1898. Masnavi in 8 volumes within 15 years.He had a great impact on the knowledge English culture has one of the Rumi’s poems. Rumi’s influence in Western culture grew and his works became best-selling books in the U.S. between 2004 and 2006 caused UNESCO to celebrate Rumi on 2007 on the occasion of the 800 anniversary of his birth. A huge celebration was held in Paris in addition to various events in 18 countries around the world.
