Be Your Own Publicist
“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.” – Dita Von Teese I once had a woman tell me that she was afraid to put herself out there too much because she was worried that people would think she was annoying. My response? If you think you’re too annoying, why would you expect anyone else to think differently? Ladies, we’ve got to get over the fear of being annoying, the fear of being “too much,” and the fear of promoting ourselves. That fear is simply a lack of confidence. We’ve got to learn to start believing in ourselves because if we don’t – who will? Think about a successful woman you admire. Do you think she’s worried about being too annoying? Hell no! She believes in herself and her work and she wants as many people to know about her as possible. That is the frequency you need to be operating on at all times. The ability to self- promote, when done right, is the most powerful tool you have as an entrepreneur. Even if you’re at the place where you can afford a publicist or a team to promote you, you will always have to be your own advocate. So how do you get to the point where you literally can’t shut up about how awesome your new book, offering, or product is? How do you feel comfortable stopping people in the street to tell them just how much they need to experience your work? It’s simple – create things that make you salivate. Make sure the work you’re doing is work you are 110% proud of. Let go of anything that does not light you up and turn you on. Hate doing private coaching? Stop doing it. Dread webinars? Cut them out of the equation. Bogged down by running your brick-and-mortar location? Move your business online. Get excited about your work and promoting yourself will become second nature. When I speak to women about what I do, there is a glow that comes from within. I get so fired up about my work and that energy is contagious. It’s not forced or canned; it real, it’s raw, and it’s passionate. I know that the work I do changes lives, and I am on a mission to share that with as many people as possible. If you’re having trouble believing in yourself, get together with your closest, most supportive girlfriends and ask them to give you a little pep talk. Sometimes it takes a reminder from those closest to us to show us just how fabulous we truly are. GIRL CODE: Secret The ability to self-promote, when done right, is the most powerful tool you have as an entrepreneur. GIRL CODE: Unlocked Ashlina Kaposta, Interior Designer and Entrepreneuress I’ve got to admit: I had a major girl crush on Ashlina Kaposta aka “The Decorista” for years before I ever sent her an email. I’ve always admired her blog and must have repinned her on Pinterest hundreds of times. Her fierce and fabulous style is a perfect example of personal branding – you just know it when you see it. I approached Ashlina in late 2014 as I was rolling out my brand new “VIP Day at The Plaza” to see if she’d be interested in test-driving the idea with me for a beta run, and we had one of the best days ever. From that point on, we’ve become friends and though we live in different cities, we stay in touch often, sharing words of wisdom or just sending each other love via text messages, phone calls, and emails. Ashlina has been in the game for a while, and I’m so excited to share her interview with you. Be sure to soak up some of this girl’s confidence, because she oozes it. Enjoy! Download 0.97 Mb.
