Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur

Do you feel you have a work/life balance? If so, how do you achieve it?
No, because I am so passionate about what I do. They say, if you love what
you do, you will never work a day in your life and that’s how I feel. Even if
I am with family or friends, I am constantly teaching and talking about
design, art, home, etc. It’s how I bond with others. However, I did have to
make sure to figure out how to incorporate my family into my passions and
make sure to make that work. One thing I realized mid-career, I was letting
self-care hit the back burner. I put everyone else ahead of myself and
needed to incorporate more self-care. One thing you can do is take ten
minutes every morning to light a candle, meditate for five and journal for
five. This changed my entire life balance.
What is the one thing that you feel women business owners need on
their journey?
To become self-aware. I realized that I was always looking to others to see
what I should do or what I shouldn’t do. That’s not how it should be; you
should quiet your mind, spend some time alone and see what comes from

your own emotions, opinions, feelings. I grew up in a big family, where
your feelings and opinions don’t really count. I had to learn how to harness
my emotions and feel good about my opinions. Having a “true to yourself”
perspective is key in being successful.
What do women need more of?
Self-acceptance and compassion.
What do women need less of?
Comparison and fears.
What is inspiring you right now?
I’m inspired by my friends. Meeting up with girlfriends with similar
aspirations or interests always inspires me. I love having in-depth
conversations about what’s going on in my life. It helps me to get a fresh
perspective and sometimes I get inspired by new ideas.
