PART3
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE?
It’s 60 years since a radio telescope was first used to search for alien life. Will a new generation of technology help us make contact with extra-terrestrials? Life in the Universe is a concept that has been long debated. The technological progress of the last century has given us the tools to enable us to look for intelligent signals from space, but the search may take a long time. As Seth Shostak, senior astronomer for the SETI Institute, has said, “The search for intelligence has barely begun, and the search could take generations”. Despite the low chance of finding life elsewhere in our Galaxy of 100 billion stars, the scientists involved in such tasks are optimistic. Missions that have identified extrasolar planets only give more motivation to the search, while public awareness of SETI remains high, keeping the search at the forefront of human imagination. Nevertheless, there are problems; critics have pointed out that much money is being poured into SETI research when the case for the existence of extra-terrestrials is not even established.

PART2
Situation 2 Describe a person who you think is very smart.
Answer:When I began studying(working)at private school three years ago, I was introduced to GulhayoBekmuradova the school’s headmistress. Her smart appearance and warm, friendly expression made me love her immediately. She is a small-boned, smiling woman in her early fifties, with twinkling blue eyes and soft silver curls. Although she dresses simply she always manages to look elegant. She is a very fair minded person who treats everyone at school with equal respect. Despite clasping her hands nervously when she is very upset, she is actually very calm, which is shown by her ability to keep her temper in the most difficult situations. Her quiet voice and gentle caring manner make her popular with the children.MsGulhayo has no children of her own; however she says that she feels like a mother to all of the children in her school. In fact she has no time for family life since she dedicates her life to her job. Besides taking care of various administrative tasks every day, she always takes time to talk to the teachers and parents. In addition, she often holds meetings with the school’s Board of Directors, as well as with staff andparents. To my mind,MsGulhayo is a dedicated professional who is a wonderful role model, not only for the children but for the teachers as well.
