Regular Verbs: Principal Parts
Verbs have four main parts––a base form,
a present participle, a simple past, and a past
participle. A regular verb forms its past
and past participle by adding –ed or
–d to the
base form. A verb forms its present participle by adding
–ing to the base form. Both the
present and past participles require a helping verb.
Base Form:
The
children ask for a snack.
Present Participle:
The children
are asking for a snack.
Past:
The children
asked for a snack.
Past Participle:
The
children have asked for a snack.
