Agreement with Indefinite Pronoun Antecedents
Use a 
singular personal pronoun
when the antecedent is a singular indefinite pronoun,
and use a 
plural personal pronoun
when the antecedent is a plural indefinite pronoun.
Each of the girls on the team has her own shin pads.
Both of the dogs lost their collars.
Note in the first sentence, with the prepositional phrase of the girls, that even though the
object of the preposition of is plural, girls, you use the personal pronoun that agrees with
the indefinite pronoun each.
Traditionally, the indefinite antecedent has taken a masculine pronoun. Today, you may
use a variety of forms.
Each has his report.
Each has his or her report.
Each has her report.
All have their reports.
