  1. What is reliability as a principle of language testing and assessment? Student administration, Test reliability? How would you plan to follow this principle of language and assessment in your teaching?

As we know that reliability which is regarded as following: when the questions are made up in accordance with the students` level as well as depicts exactly students` knowledge. As an excellent example of that, students had the same tests, they read nothing. However, they got high score. Furthermore, a reliable test which is classified below ones:

  • Student-related reliability, namely at that time, students have some psychological or physical reasons not to participate in the process of testing. Therefore, the score obtained of the students may not be their actual score.

  • Rater reliability, namely it deals with the scoring process. Factors that can impact the reliability might be human error, subjectively, and bias in scoring process. For instance, in the test of writing which means that teacher gives students to write analytical essays within similar topics. Nevertheless, students`s scores are distinctive totally because of students` comprehension, especially, we know that each essays has its own principles and rules. For this reason, most of students can feel complicated.

  • Test Administration reliability, namely it concerns with the condition and situation in which the test is administered. By the way, teachers performed as an administrator and he/she should choose the special room for testing. That is to say that in order to evaluate students` listening ability, teachers select comfortable rooms for students which means that out of noisy and other offensive ones. It comes in handy with achieving ambitious goal which is related to the testing process.



  1. What are the 5 types of Language tests we learned in the previous class sessions? In your response focus on each of them in detail. (Write your response in no less than 80 words)

There are 5 types of assessment tests that are named Achievement tests, Diagnostic tests, Placement tests, Proficiency tests, Aptitude tests. Achievement tests are limited to particular materials addressed in a curriculum with a particular time frame and are suggested after a course has concentrated on the objectives in question. For example, pupils or students` monthly lessons or else courses which are purposefully accomplished by educators, or pedagogies, teachers. Furthermore, Diagnostic tests are to diagnose aspects of a language that students need to enhance or that a course should involve. That is to say that if a teacher wants to know about his/her students` writing skills, it will be helpful to realize students` lack of skills deeply, especially the teacher to identify their students rhetorical as well as linguistic features on which the course requires to pay mostly attention. Placement tests are to place a student into a peculiar level or section of a language curriculum or school. Such kind of tests involves a sampling of the material to be covered in the distinctive courses in a curriculum. It is evident that these tests are accomplished as a competition according to the specific activities, subjects, sports, as a result, students will find material neither so easy nor difficult, but appropriately struggling. Proficiency tests are based on testing global competence in a language and by the it tests overall skill of students or candidates. This types of tests are regarded as the summative assisment or norm–referenced tests, such as TOEFL(Test of English as a foreign language ), IELTS (Internationasl English language testing system), CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference ). Aptitude tests is designed to measure ability or overall capability to acquire a foreign language a priori as well as ultimate forecast success in that undertaking.



  1. Selective listening which is the most significant way of improving students` focus in an appropriate manner. It should be stated that using this type of task which is comprehensively effective to define how students` focus on specific tasks. Designing assessment tasks: selective  listening
