THE IMPOTANCE OF CLIL IN TEACHING CONTENT AND LANGUAGE

Education system of Uzbekistan is improving as other branch day by day .Changes in
education provide for effectiveness of lessons in schools.In
addition ,intelligent and creative
teachers try to use new methodology and innovative technology in their lessons. English as a
foreign language classes based on four skills.We
can do several activities , communicate , share
information by using listening , reading , writing and speaking skills.It is a fact that
receptive and
productive skills are important of teaching English .In addition, integrated skills have enlighten the
language teaching practice.
Integrated approaches helps to build new knowledge and skills on to what students already
know and can do.So ,students are able to read a short story,this skill will help them to write their
own story.Also ,integrating the skills allows you to build in more variety into the lesson because the
range of activities will be wider.istead of just having listening the
students can have speaking ,
reading and writing practice. This can raise motivation to learn English.Above all,integrating the
skills means that you are working at the level of realistic communication,which provides all-round
developmentof communicative competence in English.
As we know ,American psychologist Howard Gardner confirmed that having 9 types of
intelligence among people..So every individual has 3or 4 types of intelligence.That is why, teachers
may teach pupils according to their intelligence in learning English as foreign language.In this
case ,CLIL helps us to get high results in teaching . Content and Language
Integrated Learning
(CLIL) has become the umbrella term describing both learning another (content) subject such as
physics or geography through the medium of a foreign language and learning a foreign language by
studying a content-based subject.
The integration of content and language learning in
English
is
found
in approaches to
bilingual education.
These approaches include
immersion,content-based
instruction
(CBI), content-based language teaching (CBLT), and the movement towards
English
medium instruction
(EMI). All of these approaches raise a number of questions that a view of
English as an international language has for content-integrated approaches.
To sum up, CLIL can provide effective opportunities for pupils to use their new language
skills now, rather than learn them now for later use. It opens doors on languages for a broader range
of learners, nurturing self-confidence in young learners and those who have not responded well to
formal language instruction in general education. It provides exposure
to the language without
requiring extra time in the curriculum, which can be of particular interest in vocational settings."
