I was so surprised when I received a package from Australia the other day. The postman brought it last Tuesday and I was delighted to see it was sent from you. Then when I opened it and saw that it contained a shirt from Sydney I was really pleased. Thank you so much! You obviously remember that during my stay in Sydney I was a big fan of the Sydney Opera House. I think the architecture is amazing, so to have that on the t-shirt is really special for me. It looks like a high quality t-shirt as well, so I’m sure I’ll get plenty of wear out of it. Next month I’m going to see a few bands play at a music festival in my city, including a band from Australia. I think that will be the perfect time to wear it and show my Aussie connections! So thank you once again. I’ll write to you again soon and tell you about the concert. Best wishes, Jeremy

e. Academic IELTS Task Two – Example Question and Answer Q: The chart shows the world population and distribution in 1900 and 2000, plus an estimate of the population in 2100. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and give comparisons (150 words). Note – the chart is not displayed in this ebook.
A: The information shows significant increases in the total world population from 1.5 billion in 1900 to 6 billion in 2000, with an expected increase 10 billion in 2100. Firstly, it is clear that this trend is affecting parts of the world differently. Throughout the period, Asia is expected to hold the greatest share of the 16
world population with 60%, so the population will continue to increase at a similar rate to world growth. Meanwhile, regions like Africa and Latin America have experienced similar rates of increase in their populations up to 2000 (5% and 4% of the total), but Africa is expected to grow dramatically faster as it rises to 25% of the total by 2100. In contrast, more industrialised regions saw a dramatic fall in their proportion of the global population, from almost a quarter in 1900 in Europe, to only 11% in 2000, and from 7% to 5% in North America. This decline is expected to continue to just 11% of the total in both regions together by 2100. In conclusion, the figures show the population increases will continue in less developed regions, but not in the more industrialised ones.
