- If you cannot answer the question, do not stop for too long.
- You must keep going because there is only about eighty seconds for each
question.
b. Do not try to understand every word
- There are many words that you do not need to know for the IELTS reading.
- Often if you understand the context (the surrounding information), that is
enough to answer the question.
c. Gap-fill questions are in order
- These always follow the sequence of the passage, so you do not need to
search the entire passage for each gap-fill answer.
- Just keep moving forward through the passage.
d. Transfer your answers during the test
- The reading is different from the listening because in the reading you do
not have ten minutes extra time to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.
- You must do this during the sixty minutes of the reading exam.
e. Check carefully for spelling, plurals and grammar
- Each answer must be totally correct to receive a mark so check your
answers again after you have entered them onto the answer sheet.
f. Answer every question
- You do not lose marks for writing the wrong answer, so you should attempt
all forty questions.
