They want activity and noise all around them. 2. Do you know other quiet places? There are many quiet places in the countryside. Many of my friends live in villages. Whenever I go to their homes, there is no noise of traffic, and you can hear the chirping of the birds and the rustling of leaves, which is very soothing to the ears. 3. Do you need a quiet place when you are working? Yes, I do appreciate a quiet place when I’m working, but unfortunately it is not always possible. So I’ve got used to some amount of noise around me. 4. Why do people like to spend time in quiet places? People like to spend time in quiet places because sometimesthey want to be with themselves, then they go to temples or quiet places, and feel relieved of their stress. 5. Do you know anyone who likes noise? I have many friends who like listening to loud music. They say that it kills the background noise of the vehicles. www.makkarIELTS.com May-August 2018 66. Describe something interesting your friend has done but you haven’t - What is it - Where your friend did it - When your friend did it - And explain why it was interesting • To overcome the monotony of daily life everyone needs something interesting. • I usually do many activities in my leisure time such as drawing, gardening and dancing. • But here I would like to talk about an unusual activity, which my friend did recently, and I found it very interesting. • It was Furoshiki . • It is a Japanese technique. • I learnt this art from the internet. • My friend sent me link of its video on my e-mail account. • It is a 10 minute video. • I liked it very much. • Furoshiki is an art of making handbags with the help of cloth and also it is art of wrapping a gift with cloth. • Such beautiful things made of cloth are a part of everyday life. • My friend has made it by using old cloth. • It is easy to make and quite attractive. • It is elegant and timeless. • It requires no sewing. • We can make a bag using a few knots and twists to cloth. • It is amazing how a few twists and knots can transform a thin cloth to a beautiful handbag. • It can be used for many household purposes and also for shopping. • I liked it because it is an eco-friendly bag and easy to carry. • The Japanese government is promoting this art in an effort to save the environment. • We all waste a lot of paper in wrapping gifts and other things. • Furoshiki gift wraps are reusable. • My friend has taught this art to many of my cousins and friends. • Now, whenever I have to gift something, I will use this method on some fine fabric and I will feel so happy when people appreciate it. • I won’t use paper. • It will be my individual step to save environment. www.makkarIELTS.com May-August 2018 Follow ups 1. Are people influenced more by their friends or parents? Well, It depends on with whom they spend more time. If they are in constant company of their friends then friends will influence them a lot otherwise if their parents can have a good influence over their life 2. Are people influenced by famous people? Yes famous personaties do have an impact on people as people look upto them and dream to become like them. People try to imitate famous people. 3. Do you think people are becoming self-centered? Yes, people nowadays care about only themselves. They do not bother about the problems or concerns of others and are only focused on their own interests 4. Why are there many self-centered people? Nowadays people are in a rat race to outdo each other. They believe that everyone works only for themselves and no one else helps each other. Also it has become difficult to earn money, so people with limited money only like to spend it on themselves. 5. What have you learned from your friends? I have learned a lot of things from my friend. The biggest thing that I have learned is that sharing is caring, we should share things be it materialistic or our intellectual thought with friends. www.makkarIELTS.com May-August 2018 67. An island you would like to visit •There are many islands in India. •An island is a piece of land with water all around it. •I would like to visit Andaman and Nicobar islands. •My cousin visited these islands last year and told me a lot about them. •There is a lot to do and see there. •He told me that these islands are very beautiful •He did speed boating over there, which he enjoyed a lot. •He also did under-water walk and paragliding over there. •Many films are shot there. •When my friend went there a south Indian movie was being shot there. •He also saw the cellular jail. •I would like to see all those places. •I would like to book a package holiday. •Then I would have no tension about booking a hotel and places to see. •My cousin went through Make My Trip and the total cost was 30,000 per person. •It included airfare and hotels. •Breakfast was included for the entire stay. •My cousin told me that Andaman and Nicobar islands are a group of about 300 small islands. •These are in fact an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal •So, this is the island, I would like to visit. www.makkarIELTS.com May-August 2018 68. Poisonous Plant You should say: - In which region this plant is found? - What are the advantages and disadvantages of this plant? - How do you know about it? • There are many poisonous plants all around us. • Some cause allergy and itching if you touch them and some cause diarrhoea and vomiting if you eat them. • Here I would like to talk about a plant which we eat everyday but some parts of this plant can be toxic. • I am talking about the tomato plant that is found in all regions of India and the world. • There are many species of the tomato plant. • I came to know all about the tomato plant accidentally as I was watching the Discovery channel about two months ago. • Biologically tomato is a fruit but for culinary purposes it is a vegetable. • We use tomato in almost all Punjabi dishes to sauté the dish. • We also eat tomato as a salad. • I love tomatoes in salad and like it sprinkled with salt and black pepper. • Few people know that leaves and stem of tomato are toxic. • They contain a substance tomatine, which is toxic and can even cause death if taken in large quantities. • If you rub the tomato leaf with your fingers, it gives a bitter odour, which is because of the poisonous substance in it. • Even the raw or green tomato has a small bit of toxicity. • The ripe tomato has a lot of advantages, it contains lycopene which is an antioxidant, which helps prevent cancer. • Tomato is also a rich source of Potassium and Vitamins. • It should be eaten but we should avoid consuming leaves and stems. • Tomato is known to be toxic to dogs. • So tomato is a plant which has poisonous foliage but a very beneficial fruit. |
