MODULE ANSWERS 
 
The two maps illustrate how the village Stokeford, on the banks of river Stoke, changed over 
an 80-year period. 
Overall, the main difference between the village's layout in 1930 and 2010 lies in the 
development of numerous houses as well as roads, which have replaced agricultural land. This 
has led to an overall expansion of the village. 
While farmland occupied more than a third of the village area to the east side of Stokes 
river in 1930, agricultural has disappeared completely in 2010. In its place, houses and roads 
have sprung up, with the number of houses more than quadrupling compared to 1930. 
Furthermore, a large house and garden has been replaced by a retirement home; two shops 
have disappeared too. 
However, a few things have remained unchanged, such as the post office in the village centre 
and the bridge at its northern end. The primary school has also stayed in its same central 
location across from the post office, but has been expanded. While the village Stokeford 
developed tremendously over the 80-year time period, its spatial extent stayed the same.
