About eighty different metals are now known. All these metals are divided into two large groups: ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals. Steel, cast iron, ferroalloys are included in the group of ferrous metals.
In the earth's crust or on the very surface of the earth in different places there are deposits of ore, which is a combination of iron and oxygen. Restoring iron from ore, it is combined with carbon. Cast iron and steel are alloys of iron with carbon. There are the following types of cast iron: white, gray, malleable and high-strength. Steel is made from gray iron. The structure of steel changes during heat treatment.
