Indirect questions in teaching grammar

Conclusion

The purpose of this final qualification work was to consider the phenomenon of external and internal speech in the constructions of indirect speech as a model of the linguistic vision of the world of an individual writer. We have considered ways to convey the speech of characters in close connection with the communicative aspect of the language.
To achieve the goal of our work, we used 60 examples taken from the cycle of stories by D. Joyce "The Dubliners", analyzing the first story of the cycle using compositional analysis. The research part of our work includes a third of the collected examples that most clearly illustrate the described syntactic phenomenon.
The results of the work are presented in two chapters. The first chapter contains an overview of the theoretical foundations of the study, which clarifies the main terms and concepts used in the work; the place of constructions of indirect speech in the grammatical system of the English language is determined; the analysis of structures of indirect speech at the semantic, syntactic and communicative levels is carried out; the problem of the semantics of the supporting verb introducing indirect speech is considered.
The second chapter analyzes the composition, plot, themes and motives of the story in question; describes the syntactic characteristics of structures of indirect speech, provides data on the combination of two points of view, on the two-voice in the narrative, which becomes possible due to the phenomenon under study. Based on the analysis of the constructions of indirect speech, as well as their semantic-syntactic and functional features in the text of the story and summarizing everything presented in our study, we have shown that the constructions of indirect speech play a decisive role in combining two points of view and forming an artistic device.
