Mean : ma’no anglatmoq, bildirmoq ma’nolarida GERUND, maqsad qilmoq, niyatl qilmoq, biror narsani atay qilmoq ma’nolarida INFINITIVE.

Hard work means giving up all the fun in your life and dedicate yourself to your goal.

I have a very important appointment tomorrow and it means getting up early.
I am sorry but I did not mean to upset you.
He failed the test but he was not sad because he meant to fail the test.

Be afraid to do/ be afraid of doing

To do : agar vaziyat sizga bog’liq bo’lsa, xoxlasangiz vaziyatdan qochishingiz mumkin bo’lsa.
I am afraid to go out at night. She is afraid to talk to strangers. We were afraid to go to the hospital.
Of doing: agar vaziyat sizga bog’liq bo’lmasa, vaziyatdan qutilish sizning qo’lingizda bo’lmasa.
I don’t carry my passport with me. I am afraid of losing it.
I don’t swim in the deep waters I am afraid of drowning.
I am afraid to carry many dishes at the same time because I am afraid of dropping them.

Stop: qilishni toxtatsa GERUND, qilish uchun toxtasa yoki toxtatsa INFINITIVE.

sodir bol’ib bo’lgan narsadan afsusdaman desa GERUND, endi qilinadigan ishdan afsusdaman desa INFINITIVE.
