Speech of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Dear Chief Wulgan Bazkir gentlemen! Dear Secretary General Antonio Guterrish gentlemen! Dear heads of delegations! Ladies and gentlemen! The seventy – fifth session of the General Assembly takes place for the first time in the history of the United Nations in a completely new format-online communication mode due to the coronavirus pandemic. Such a global catastrophe was not observed on our planet in the last hundred years. This disaster clearly showed the weaknesses of all mankind. The current threatening and complex situation has proved that all countries and peoples on earth are interconnected, and regular communication, trust and close cooperation between us are extremely important. Along the way, we all deeply understood the need to unite the mutual efforts of governments, parliaments and civil societies, strengthen the principles of common responsibility, develop international partnership in accordance with it, increase the status and potential of the World Health Organization, expand its powers. Our goal is to jointly create a fair global system that ensures the basic rights and freedoms, health and well-being of each person. In this regard, we are under the auspices of the United Nations International code on voluntary obligations of states during pandemics we offer development. This document should reflect the obligations of each state to its citizens and international partners. Dear ladies and gentlemen! From the first days of COVID-19 in Uzbekistan, we have focused all our efforts and resources on curbing this dangerous disease and, most importantly, saving people's lives. To mitigate the negative consequences of the pandemic, social protection and health systems are sharply strengthened, targeted support for the population, sectors of the economy and business is provided. For this purpose, special funds were created. I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to all our friends and partners who provided us with unselfish help during the test moments. We support all efforts of the international community to effectively combat the pandemic, including initiatives aimed at developing and widely using the necessary medicines and vaccines. We also approve the proposal of the gentlemen of Secretary General Antonio Guterrish to hold a summit dedicated to the pressing problems of ensuring food security in today's crisis situation. Dear participants of the General Assembly session! Three years ago, I said from the Supreme rostrum of the United Nations that Uzbekistan's decision to carry out radical reforms was decisive. As a result of our large-scale measures for political, social and economic modernization of society, a new Uzbekistan is being formed. Today, democratic changes in our country have become irreversible. Last year, parliamentary elections demonstrated an increase in the political activity of the population and parties, the role of civil society institutions, the influence of the media. For us, gender equality policy has become a priority issue. The role of women in public administration is gaining momentum. In our new Parliament, the number of female deputies has doubled. The situation in the field of human rights has also changed completely. Forced and child labor was completely abolished. The National Human Rights strategy was adopted. In response to the United Nations call to reduce the number of stateless people, 50,000 of our compatriots were granted the citizenship of Uzbekistan this year. In our country, the situation has improved dramatically even with regard to religious freedom. Further strengthening of interethnic harmony and interreligious tolerance is a constantly important task for us. Comprehensive reforms aimed at ensuring the genuine independence of the courts and the rule of law are consistently carried out. The uncompromising fight against corruption has reached a new level. In this regard, important legislation was adopted and an independent structure was established – the Anti-Corruption Agency. Economic reforms are continuing rapidly in our country. For the first time, we openly declared our firm decision to reduce poverty. We achieve this by developing entrepreneurship and creating additional jobs, improving the investment and business environment and building modern infrastructure, training people in new professions and providing targeted social assistance to the population. More than half of the population of our country is made up of young people. In our republic, tremendous work is being done to ensure that every young man-girl takes a worthy place in society and shows her potential. Youth parliaments and Youth Affairs Agency operate in Uzbekistan. In August, under the auspices of the United Nations, the Samarkand international forum on youth rights was successfully held.
