1.5 Organization design and structure

Every organization has own organizational structures and designs. Sound organization design is essential for successful operation of an institution whether economic or social. Organization structure refers to a hierarchical arrangement of a position of the members and the department of an organization. It shows authority and responsibility relationship among the members. It identifies who is to command and who is obey. It is the mechanism to direct, coordinate and control the activities. It is the static concept that cannot be easily and quickly.
The head office of the bank is located at Babarmahal, Kathmandu. The board of directors is responsible for policy making and guidelines to the management. The government nominates all board members including the chairman. The executive power is vested in the chief executive officer (CEO). The bank has 22 departments in its head office. PBL has the largest branch network in Nepal, covering 22 branches in province 1, 21 in province 2, 83 in province 3, 45 in province 4, 26 in province 5, 8 in province 6, and 10 in province 7. The branch operation department is responsible for supervising the 215 branch network. The internal audit department monitors the work of the branches and regional offices.
