1.4 Modern approaches to learning a foreign language that ensure the development of student motivation

As previously mentioned, there are factors that reduce the motivation for learning foreign languages, reducing the quality of the knowledge gained.

Observation of students allows us to see that for some students the study of foreign languages is personally important, they have a high motivation for learning a foreign language. But there are students for whom learning a foreign language is something like a duty that they must perform. These students are characterized by low motivation, so they are most often bored in the lessons and look forward to the end of the lesson. Almost all teachers face this problem, often blaming students for their inability to learn foreign languages.
Therefore, the interest in studying the subject and the desire to master it depend on what methods of motivating students the teacher uses. There are many techniques that encourage students to learn foreign languages. But we will consider some of them, the most effective from a psychological point of view.
The game
The game is one of the most powerful motivational means that serves to satisfy the cognitive needs of students in studying school material. Thanks to the role-playing game, the student gets great opportunities to stimulate learning activities. A role-playing game is such a methodical technique that belongs to the group of active teaching methods, I practically master foreign languages.
A role-playing game is a process of reproduction by participants of any activity that can be used at any stage of learning a foreign language.
Speech activity is motivated by role play. Students can say something, ask or share some information with the interlocutor. As a result, students have a successful experience and knowledge that a foreign language can be a means of interesting communication.
The game promotes students' contacts with each other, with the teacher, creating favorable conditions for communication between classmates and overcoming the barrier between the teacher and the student.
Shy and insecure students, during the game, interact with other participants and learn to overcome difficulties in communication.
Each student receives a role and becomes an active participant in the communication in the role-playing game. In games, students learn such elements of communication as the ability to start a conversation, maintain it, interrupt another participant at the right time, agree with someone else's point of view or refute it, as well as the ability to ask questions.
The role-playing game is based on the relationship between its participants, realized in the course of communication. Since the role-playing game is a model of interpersonal communication, it stimulates the motivation to participate in communication in a foreign language, causing the need for a conversation.
