B. Importance of the concept in biology and ecology
The concept of keystone species is significant in both biology and ecology. As a biological concept, it
explains the vital role played by specific species in an ecosystem in maintaining its stability and balance.
Keystone species act as regulators, keeping the population of other species in check. This phenomenon is
evident in various ecosystems such as coral reefs, where parrotfish is responsible for regulating the growth
of algae that compete with corals for space. Similarly, in the African savannah, elephants perform the role
of keystone species by creating clearings in the forest, which enables the growth of grasses and other
vegetation. Ecologically, keystone species are indicators of the health of an ecosystem as the presence or
absence of these species affects the health, stability, and composition of an ecosystem. The importance
of this concept lies in its role in informing conservation and management approaches while recognizing
the interdependence of all living organisms.
C. Thesis statement
The thesis statement of this essay asserts that animal emergence is a result of anthropogenic activities.
The current era of human influence, often referred to as the Anthropocene, has led to the massive
transformation of natural ecosystems, resulting in environmental degradation and species loss. The
expansion of human civilization has led to deforestation, land-use change, pollution, climate change, and
other human-caused environmental disturbances that have disrupted natural wildlife populations. The

essay's thesis statement suggests that animal emergence is a manifestation of the complex interactions
between human activities and natural ecosystems. The essay argues that to understand animal emergence
fully, we must consider the critical role of human activities in shaping the ecological landscape and causing
changes in wildlife behavior and distribution. Ultimately, this essay aims to contribute to the growing
body of knowledge on anthropogenic impacts on wildlife populations and ecosystems, highlighting the
urgent need for responsible environmental stewardship.
In addition to environmental factors, the theory of evolution has long been used to explain the emergence
of new animal species. According to this theory, animals evolve over time in response to changes in
their environment, which can result in physical adaptations that promote survival and reproduction. This
process of natural selection has been observed in both domesticated and wild animals, allowing scientists
to better understand how different species of animals have evolved over time. One example of this is
the emergence of the giraffe, whose long neck is thought to have evolved as a result of competition for
food in savanna environments. By stretching their necks to reach leaves on tall trees, giraffes were able
to access a new food source and gain a competitive advantage over shorter herbivores. Understanding the
mechanisms behind the emergence of new animal species is a crucial aspect of evolutionary biology, with
implications for fields ranging from medicine to conservation.
