What is the periodisation of the English language? Old English, which lasted from the 5th century to the end of the 11th, the dates of its end range from 1066, which is the year of the Norman Conguest, to 1150; Middle English - from the 12th to the 15th century, the period is believed to have ended in 1475, the year of the introduction of printing; New English , which means the English of the last six centures. Within it, historians usually distinguish the Early New English period from the 15th century to the 17th up to the age of Shakespeare, from which as called Late New English from the 17th till our times. 3. Why do languages borrow from other languages? Because sometimes a language does not possess all the words necessary for it to capture all its experiences. At such times, it has to borrow words and expressions from other languages that come in contact with it. Such borrowed items help in enriching, expanding and developing the language. 4. What process do all loans go through in a new language? What type of words can be named ‘false friends of translators’? Can you provide a couple of examples from you native language?
