Installation Experience
The installation and setup of MySQL proved to be simple, after clearing a couple 
obstacles that weren’t related to MySQL, but rather involved my antivirus settings, and UAC. I 
was surprized at the simplicity of the install process, and became suspicious that perhaps I was 
missing something. It felt almost too simple to me. Everything appears fine, so I am assuming I 
did everything correctly. 
Capabilities 
MySQL is easy to install and use. One capability of MySQL is Flexibility. MySQL is 
scalable, and supports Linux, Windows, and Unix. MySQL client programs can be written in 
many different languages, including C, C++, Eiffel, Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, and Tcl. 
There are many third-party tools that can be used with MySQL. Another capability is that the 
unique storage-engine architecture allows for configuring the MySQL server for specific 
applications. MySQL has various client and utility programs that can be utilized. The programs

have both command line (mysqldump, mysqladmin) and GUI-based(Workbench) usage 
possibilities. MySQL offers a nice variety of ways to make client connections. This includes 
TCP/IP, shared memory, and domain socket files. MySQL implements in-memory hash tables, 
which are used as temporary tables. MySQL offers password security featuring encryption and 
host-based verification, as well as the ability to level block users. MySQL can use multiple 
CPU’s when available. MySQL uses MyISAM with index compression. MySQL offers up very 
fast joins via the nested-loop join. In MySQL has no memory allocation at all after query 
initialization. MySQL offers the capability of performance outside of networks. This is due to the
server program being provided as an embedded library in standalone applications.
Approach
In MySQL we will use the Entity Relationship Model(ERM) approach for the conceptual 
designing. This helps to take the requirements of the concept and modify them into the 
formalities of entities and relationships that are to be a part of the database.
