1. Motivation.
Teacher sticks 11 flashcards on the blackboard. A word is written on each card and the cards face the blackboard. Teacher asks pupils to come up to the blackboard and get a card. After the pupils get the cards they must make their own group.

Now teacher draws pupils` attention to the screen and they check if they are right or wrong on the screen. After checking, teacher divides the pupils into “Pets” and “Birds” groups. The pupil with the names of pets goes to “Pets” group and the pupil with the names of birds goes to “Birds” group and etc.




2. Presentation.
Teacher introduces the new theme: “Pets and domestic animals.” He can teach the meaning of the words ‘pets’, ‘domestic’ and ‘animals’.
It is good if the teacher tells the pupils the difference between pets and domestic animals. Then teacher asks the pupils to look at the screen, listen to the new words and repeat. The pictures of domestic animals appear on the screen, teacher plays the cassette, and pupils listen to the names of the animals and repeat.
Now pupils do the matching activity. They must match the pictures and words. They write in on their notebooks. Pupils check the activity with the whole class on the screen.


3. Practice stage.
The class teacher teaches the pupils how to make the plurals of the new words and asks the pupils to pay attention to irregular plural forms of the words “sheep” and “goldfish.” Teacher also focuses on the formation of the plural of the word ‘canary.’ Pupils can also look at the remember box.

Teacher goes to the groups and gives them “group members` responsibilities badges” and each pupil in the group has his or her own responsibility as ‘a group leader’, ‘a time keeper’, ‘a presenter’, ‘a material manager’, a facilitator’, or ‘a writer’. Each group has a poster with the same pictures of the domestic animals. Teacher asks the groups to write the names of the animals both in singular and in plural and sets time for the task. eg.:

W hen time is finished group presenters come to the blackboard and present their works. Teacher allows the group presenters to check each others works for mistakes. Teacher gives the groups ‘smiles’ for each correct answer.


In the next activity pupils listen to the names of the animals on the tape and point to the correct picture. Now teacher establishes pairs within the groups and pupils can do this activity in pairs. A pupil points to the picture and his partner says the name.
In the next activity pupils ask and say the spelling of the new words:
