A simple bar chart is a chart consisting of one or more bars, in which the length of each bar indicates the magnitude of the corresponding information.
A component bar chart is a bar chart that gives a breakdown of each total into its components. The difference between a component bar chart and a percentage component bar chart is that, with a component bar chart, the total length of each bar (and the length of each component in it) indicates magnitude. A bigger amount is shown by a longer bar. With a percentage component bar chart, total magnitudes are not shown. If two or more bars are drawn on the chart, the total length of each bar is the same. The only varying lengths in a percentage component bar chart are the lengths of the sections of a bar, which vary according to the relative sizes of the components.
