The frist Olimpic Games were held in Greece.Originally it was a festival in honour of the Greek god Zeus,and was held in Olimpia near Mount Olimpus.
In the 19th century there was a lot of interest in the ancient Greeks and their civilisation. Sport was also becoming more popular.A Frenchman,Baron Pierre de Coubertin,decided to start new Olimpic movement.
