IN THE LEARNING PROCESS 
 
Abstract 
In this article, educational films are regarded as one of the teaching methods. An educational film is a film or 
movie whose primary purpose is to educate. Educational films have been used in classrooms as an alternative to 
other teaching methods. This article describes the main features of the use of educational films in the learning 
process.

Currently, many scientists consider the educational films as an effective method of education. 
There is a point of view that you need to read a lot of books to develop yourself as a personality. Of course, 
books play a big role in our education. They allow us to learn a lot of things and form a personality. However, not 
only books can form us. Films being instructive and informative influence our upbringing and education alongside

The visual presentation of information is an important tool for learning. With the advent of cinema one of the 
main means of visual presentation of information is an educational film. The educational film allows us to 
memorize a lot of information without any efforts. Films are simple, we get information easily as they switch on 
the emotional centers of memory, so the information is remembered better, faster and kept longer. The educational 
film can be considered from two sides: firstly, an educational film as a part of the culture, and secondly, an 
educational film as a part of an education. The educational film is a film that a teacher or students watch in order to 
add the diversity to the educational process. Moreover, students and teachers have a possibility to create their own 
films. The process of making a film contributes to developing certain competencies, such as critical thinking
communication, mastery of shooting and editing techniques. Nowadays it becomes more and more important. Thus, 
today, we can highlight the following features of the educational film: educational, ethical, aesthetic. There are also 
some new characteristics: the films have become interactive, they perform motivational functions of 
individualization and support productive development of creative activity. 
However, the passion for movies can reduce the interest in other important forms of learning activities. 
Educational films should not be the only tool in the learning process, learning material can be presented at the face 
to face lectures in an understandable and interesting way. You cannot study a subject only by watching educational 
films without doing a lot of drills. The most productive and effective procedure of working on the film can be 
presented in a simple way as follows: at first, students watch an educational film for a few minutes, then quite 
enough time is devoted to the discussion and record of the main points of the film. Educational films allow the 
teacher to give information in the correct sequence and pay special attention to the issues that have relevance to the 
topic and subject. 
The practice of using educational films is extremely common in the educational institutions of European 
countries, the United States of America. Educational films can be used not only for teaching pupils, students but for 
professional training as well.
In the Russian Federation, using educational films is not very popular, although attempts are being made to 
embed this type of experience into educational and training processes. This is due to the possibility of independent 
search of educational material in the Internet. Today some higher educational institutions of Russia make their own 
educational films, which are successfully used in other universities of the country and the world. 
We can come to the conclusion that educational films have a specific purpose, which is determined by the 
specifics of the discipline, the character and complexity of the material, its place in the learning process. Being a 
part of the complex learning tools, educational films can be used in combination with a variety of training aids, 
models, and other traditional means of teaching.
