PART 5: DISCUSSION (3000 WORDS)
This is where you interpret the results, reaching conclusions that demonstrate that you have insight into the issue and that relate to the literature that you have reviewed. The discussion chapter is where you have the opportunity to shine. It will show the degree of insight that you exhibit in reaching your conclusions. Normally it is as long as your results chapter. Crucially, here you are making judgments rather than reporting facts, so this is where your understanding can shine through. You should state the relation of the findings to the goals, questions and hypotheses that you stated in the introductory chapter. In addition, the discussion chapter will benefit from a consideration of the implications of your research for the relevant theories, which you detailed in your literature review. PART 6: CONCLUSION (1000 words) This should be an objective assessment of how your research has gone, any possible limitations (such as bias) and you it could have been done differently if you had the chance again. In this section you should also think about what your findings means for the issue as a whole, and reflect on the implications for future research, and if relevant, also recommendations. • In this section you should present limitations of your research, how do they influence your results. 8 • You can also present implications of your findings. • Any recommendations based on your research, if they are suitable References In reading your report, we should clearly know what your own original work is and what is other people’s work that you have summarized or quoted. It is important to use a consistent and recognized referencing style (Harvard). Referencing is not a matter of how many references but rather the appropriateness of the references and the way that they have been used to support the argument. Appendices These include research instruments, (with an English translation, if conducted in another language), examples of analyses, background detail, etc. Only include what is of major relevance and it must be referenced in the text.
