Introduction to Statistics and Data Science (4ECON006c_n)
REVISION FOR FINAL EXAM
Date/Time: April 18
th
, 2021 (10:00 and 15:00)
Time allowed: 2 hours 15 minutes.
The final exam covers the topics from the second semester. But the students should know some
concepts from Semester 1 since they are connected.
There are 2 sections for total of 100 marks.
Section A: Multiple Choice Questions: 10 questions, 2 marks for each correct answer (
20 marks)
• Do not circle the answers in the Question booklet. You need
to provide your correct
answers in the Answer booklet. For example,
1. A
2. B
3. C
…
• There is no need to provide step-by-step
solutions for Section A only.
• The student is responsible to write the letters clearly. If two choices are provided, then no
mark will be given for that question.
Section B: Open-ended Tasks (
80 marks). There will be 4 tasks with subsections (a, b, c, …) on
each task.
Requirements on Section B:
• Provide step-by-step solutions for each task.
• Round your intermediate and final solutions to at least 3 decimals (e.g. 10.234, not 10.23).
Learning outcomes by teaching weeks:
Week 1: t-test
• Make distinction between different types of t-tests (independent vs paired).
• Hypothesis testing on step by step basis (hypotheses,
rejection rule,
decision,
interpretations).
• Compute degrees of freedoms (exception: you do not
need to memorize the df for
independent t-test with unequal variance)
• Ability to find the critical values from the t table for given alphas.
Week 2: One-Way ANOVA
• Make distinction between one-way ANOVA and t-test.
• Hypothesis testing on step by step basis (hypotheses, rejection rule, decision,
interpretations).
• Compute degrees of freedoms.
• Ability to fill out the ANOVA tables when Sum Squares are given.
• Ability to find the critical values from the F table.
