3. What is the difference between deep and dark implicitness? Provide examples
From the lecture, we have known that there are several main optional text categories. They are as follows:

1. Implicitness

2. Imagery

3. Intertextuality

4. Emotiveness

5. Intertextuality.

Implicitness is an optional text category that is implied or understood though not directly expressed. With the help of signals, especially lexical stylistic devices and poetic details, poetic title, such as epigraph and dialogue helps the reader how to understand deeply in the text.

Correlation between two semantic layers “appearance” and “inner world” explains the mechanism of the implicit. As a result, there are two main types of implicitness: Dark and deep.

In other words, comparing dark and deep implicitness, dark implicitness expresses “outer side and appearance” of subject or object, deep implicitness expresses “inner world” of subject or object.

An Fascinating example of this can be seen in the depiction of the presence in the book “The Old Man and The Sea” by E.Hemingway:

Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same colour as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated (p.11).

Here is the example of dark implicitness. The extract focuses the issue of representing emphasis on the portrait system composed of multiple component to hypo-homonymic relationships. It is important to remember that all of the elements of this system have a symbolic meaning. Thus, a square chin means a solid, strong-willed character.

The second-deep level suggests an internal mental characterization which is perceived to be the method of predicating certain attributes, traits, characteristics to the character.

This implicitness “head”, “nose”, “shoulders”, “elbows” are no less important when we use characterize innerly. Here is some examples of the type of implicitness as a number of phraseological units:

When pigs fly (tuyani dumi yerga tekkuncha) it mean never

to keep one’s head above water (бороться с трудностями),

a long head проницательный;

he that has a great nose thinks everybody is speaking of it (на воре шапка горит);

his shoulders are broad enough (он достаточно решительный человек, чтобы взять на себя ответственность)

There are other types of implicitness:

  1. Superficial implicitness

  2. Trite (She is a fox)

  3. Genuine (Individual creations which are used by authors by poetic details and the title)

“Here is a new game," said Scrooge. "One half-hour, Spirit, only one!"

The exclamation reveals that Scrooge’s transition is ongoing when he displays more philanthropic behaviour about what the spirit show, in comparison to his solipsistic behavior towards Stave
