1. What are the main assumptions/points of cultural approach to text? Why is fictional text considered to be a cultural unit? What linguistic units can represent cultural factors in fictional text? Provide examples
Paying attention to fictional texts we can clearly see the connection between language and culture. It is the fact that a fictional text is a form of culture. It is fictitious text that transforms socio-cultural, stylistic, emotional and evaluative knowledge first. It should be remembered that the cultural knowledge expressed in the text is of a progressive type and various texts are distinguished by various degrees of information specific to culture. Let’s analyze some extract of Galsworthy’s work “To Let”:

On the day of the cancelled meeting at the National Gallery, began the second anniversary of the resurrection of England's pride and glory—or, more shortly, the top hat. "Lord's"—that festival which the war had driven from the field—raised its light and dark blue flags for the second time, displaying almost every feature of a glorious past. Here, in the luncheon interval, were all species of female and one species of male hat, protecting the multiple types of face associated with "the classes" The observing Forsyte might discern in the free or unconsidered seats a certain number of the squash-hatted, but they hardly ventured on the grass”

This passage of the book describes real traditional history of England between 19th and 20th centuries. The famous stadium in London for playing cricket, a popular national game, is the main point of describing event. Besides, we can see illustration of the place (Lord’s ... raised its light and dark-blue flags).

Tradition. Conformity to custom is one of the greatest emotions of the ruling class. They are respectful of their class. They are respectful of their customs and aim to show them whenever possible: annual cricket match, trips, garments (top hats, parasols), traditional lunch.

If we look at the story “Mening o’g’rigina bolam” by Gafur Gulyam. We can find many examples. In the story the author describes the atmosphere in the life at the beginning of XX century. “Otamizning o‘lganiga anchagina yil o‘tib ketdi. Bu yil — o‘n yettinchi yilning ko‘klamida onamizdan ham ajralib, shum yetim bo‘lib qoldik. Biz to‘rt yetimdan xabar olib turishga katta onam — onamning onalari Roqiyabibi kelib turibdilar. Bu kishini biz erkalab “qora buvi” deb ataymiz.

Oqshomlari buvim boshliq hammamiz oldi ochiq ayvonda uvunto‘da ko‘rpa-yostiqlarga o‘ralib, bittagina O‘ratepaning kir ip sholchasi ustida uxlaymiz”

The word “oldi ochiq ayvon” shows the traditional style of the old houses. The word phrases “uvunto‘da ko‘rpa-yostiqlar” and “bittagina O‘ratepaning kir ip sholchasi” shows the horrible life in that period of life.
