The five most secret military bases in the world
Masked missile mines, collective points, secret laboratories and underground bunkers are just a few of the networks of military facilities that are invisible from the outside and can have a strong influence on the course of military operations around the globe. Books are written about these objects, fantastic films are made, computer games are dedicated to them, but no one knows what is really happening there... The legendary "Area 51" airbase in the US state of Nevada has appeared several times in science fiction movies. There are various rumors about this place: the study of alien technologies, the creation of "flying saucers", the cultivation of militant viruses capable of destroying the entire human race, genetic experiments, etc. The proliferation of conspiracy theories forced the Pentagon to reveal some details. According to official information, experimental flying devices and weapons systems are being developed in "Zone 51". It is reported that reconnaissance aircraft such as Lockheed U2, A-12 and SR-71, as well as the famous "stealth" F-117 Nighthawk, were tested here. The triangular shape of their fuselage may have caused casual witnesses to believe that experiments with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were being conducted. According to some reports, the SR-91 Aurora, a top-secret hypersonic strategic stealth reconnaissance aircraft, is currently being developed at Area 51. According to the American media, this plane develops a speed of up to 20 thousand kilometers per hour, but the Pentagon has not yet confirmed this news. The American air base in Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) has been operating for over 100 years. Its area is about 117 square kilometers. The base harbor can accommodate up to 50 large ships and even aircraft carriers. On land, there are more than 1,500 service and residential facilities, a mechanized port, ship repair shops, a floating dock, food, ammunition, fuel and lubricants warehouses. Base contingent - about 10,000 military personnel. A special town with all amenities was built for them. The base is known negatively because of the Guantanamo prison located on its territory. The Americans have kept more than a thousand people here since 2002 without trial or investigation. There are various rumors about the arrangement here in the press. Suspects of terrorism were tortured, not allowed to sleep, kept on half-starvation regime. In these ways, they got them to confess to the charges. In 2009, US President Barack Obama signed an executive order to close the prison, but it continues to operate today. According to international law enforcement organizations, about 40 prisoners are kept there. The large Yulin naval base off the coast of China's Hainan Island was recently reported. In 2008, US intelligence released photos showing that the People's Liberation Army of China had built a massive facility in the mountainous area for the naval component of its nuclear-armed forces. According to satellite images, the Yulin base can accommodate up to 20 ICBM submarines. Two aircraft carrier strike groups can be located next to it. This base, built in secret and on short notice, is very important for China's defense system. Underwater missile carriers hidden in caves are ready to withstand a powerful nuclear attack and go out to sea unnoticed and attack the enemy. It is still unclear how many exit points the base has. There is no information about its internal device either. Most importantly, there is no information on whether China has any more such bases. The heart of US national security is the three-kilometer Cheyenne Mountain near Colorado Springs, and the underground NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) complex is hidden beneath it. This structure integrates American and Canadian missile and air defenses into a single system. In the event of a nuclear war, the political and military leadership of the country will control the military forces from the bunker on Cheyenne Mountain. The construction of the underground base began in 1961. A system of artificial caves was created at the bottom of Cheyenne Mountain in three years. Three tunnels (length - 180 m, height - 20 m, width - 15 m) intersect with four more tunnels (length - 100 m, height - 17 m, width - 10 m) and form a unique grid. 15 metal structures are placed in these chambers, 12 of them form three-story buildings, the rest - 1-2 levels. 9.5-meter-thick low-carbon steel layers are externally supported by an internal steel frame. All structures are mounted on special springs, which makes the complex resistant to earthquakes and nuclear shock complications. The Cheyenne Mountain Bunker is still in operation. The Olavsvern naval base in Norway was built during the Cold War, 15 kilometers south of Tromsø, at the confluence of Rumforden and Balls fords. Structurally, it is a dry dock leading directly to the sea. Total area of the base It reaches 25,000 square meters, and its fortification was carried out by Norway's NATO allies. During the Cold War, the complex was mainly used by American submarines that controlled the Arctic Ocean. Their task was to monitor the submarine missile carriers of the Soviet Union. The incident happened on the evening of November 17. According to the command, no one was injured and the base was not damaged. The military is investigating the incident. It is not yet known who carried out the attack. The base was shelled earlier on September 18. Three rockets were fired at him. Another attack was also carried out on August 17, when coalition forces were present at the base. On August 25, according to Central Command, the Green Village and Conoco bases were attacked by "Iranian-backed militants" and three American servicemen were injured. US attack helicopters returned fire, destroying at least three vehicles and several people "responsible for firing the missiles." After the dissolution of the USSR, the base was idle for a long time, and in 2011 it was put up for sale. Olavsvern was eventually bought by businessman Gunnar Wilhelmsen and leased to a Russian research vessel base. He remains in this position to this day. The base of Green Village is located in Deir-ez-Zor region, near an oil field. According to CNN, there are about 900 American military personnel in Syria, who are stationed at the At-Tanf base and in the eastern mines. Download 20.68 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
