CHAPTER I. DESCRIBE STRATEGIES TO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO
LEARNERS TO DEVELOP THEIR WRITING SKILLS
1.1. Strategies to improve writing skills in preschool and primary education
Critical thinking skills include all the knowledge and abilities related to
expressing ideas. The ability to clearly communicate ideas through integradted
skills are in high demand for employers in any industry.
Critical thinking skills
are the skills you use to write effectively and succinctly. A good writer is someone
who can communicate their point to their audience without using too much fluff
and in a way that the other person can understand. Writing skills don't just include
the physical act of writing.
Critical thinking skill is all about having adequate knowledge and abilities to
express your thoughts and ideas in written words. Good writing skills allow
communicators to communicate their message with clarity to a far larger audience
than other mediums of communication like face-to-face or telephone
conversations.
Critical thinking skills is also important because it allows students
to: Improve their understanding of class material and seek clarification. Develop
their critical thinking skills and make connections. Communicate ideas, opinions,
persuade others, and express feelings.
Improving your writing helps you to become
a better communicator overall and it also improves your reading, which is another
essential job skill. And your ability to write a well-crafted application, resume, and
cover letter is the first step to getting a job.
Writing is used to store information
make a permanent record, and for communication. It can be pictograph- or
alphabet-based. Shows different ways to write and lists many specific uses of
writing.
Psychology research and learning experts suggest writing things down
leads to better learning. Notes are helpful, sure – but the act of writing makes
information stick in your memory. Writing helps us monitor what we know, as
well as causing us to engage in retrieval practice: a more active form of learning.

writing system, technically referred to as a script or an orthography, consists of a
set of visible marks, forms, or structures called characters or graphs that are related

to some structure in the linguistic system.
Basic writing skills: These
include spelling, capitalization, punctuation, handwriting or keyboarding, and
sentence structure (for example, elimination of run-ons and sentence fragments).
Basic writing skills are sometimes called the ―mechanics‖ of writing.
Every milestone in a child‘s life is important for their progress. Right from
their smile, to their first words and then going to school are huge feats for a child.
School, starting from preschool, brings about a huge amount of development in a
child‘s life. The benefits of a preschool, in particular, are:

It is their first experience at socializing with other children, learning to
receive and follow instructions and to function in a structured setting.

It promotes social and emotional development in a child.

Makes a child independent and also emphasizes on the importance of
sharing and being sensitive to others‘ needs.

Helps develop motor skills and nurtures a child‘s curiosity.

Promotes language skills, cognitive skills, pre-math and literacy skills
Language is the primary skill that allows a person to communicate. A child
begins to develop language even before they can use words – by crying and their
actions. When the child learns the art of communication through a language, it
becomes easier for them to convey their feelings and needs. Language
development is important for a child in order to adequately exchange information
with others in a meaningful way. Once a child starts speaking, the next step is to
learn the technique of writing. Teaching writing skills for preschoolers can be quite
a challenge as you need to begin from the basics which is also called pre-writing.
Critical thinking skills are very important to help kids develop skills to write
legibly later on during their K-12 schooling. If these skills are developed at this
stage, the self-esteem and confidence of the child increase by leaps and bounds.
Getting a preschooler to write is quite a task as their attention span is very less.
You cannot dive into writing at one go, as it is a totally new concept for your child.
You need to start working on the basics first. The key is to do it through some fun

activities coupled with learning. We have come up with some ways to help your
child to develop the skill of written communication:
