Coursework Tasks 2023-24

CW TASK
Each team chooses two country groups belonging to different subregions
1
where they must demonstrate the ability to write a
comparative analysis supported with proper arguments and relevant statistics.
To complete the assignment the following tasks should be accomplished:
1. The students should choose two country groups belonging to different subregions where the first must be considered as
Central Asia. The choice of the countries should be according to the following criterions:
• The second country group (subregion) of the choice should have minimum three similarities with Central Asia. The
analogy between the countries can be reflected based on economic, political, social, cultural, demographic, geographic or
institutional aspects of each country. For example, Central Asia and Western Asia have ethnic, cultural and religious
similarities, (social and cultural similarity), Central Asia and Central America mainly consist of developing countries
(economic similarity), etc.
• The students should write one page introduction, which discusses the economic, political and social factors of chosen
countries.
• The provided information should be supported with relevant arguments and general statistics. For example, the students
may provide brief discussions about the overall economic performance of subregions over the past few decades
including information about the main sectors contributing to the wellbeing of each subregion, the role of globalization,
etc.
Provide relevant evidence for the choice of countries that meet the country specification criterion. (20 marks)
Note: The right choice of country groups plays an important role in developing relevant discussions for each task of the
CW.
2. Discuss the severity of poverty and income inequality in each subregion. The provided arguments should be supported
with relevant statistics taken from valid data sources (e.g. World Bank, UN, Department of Statistics of countries, etc.).
Students should conduct comparative analysis to demonstrate each subregion’s efforts (a brief country specific
arguments can be discussed too) in curbing the problems of poverty and income inequality. (20 marks)
