OUR FUTURE PROFESSION
Every year in Uzbekistan many young people who has the secondary education, who really care for medicine and have passed successfully their entrance examinations, enter the medical institutes and become students. Some students want to be a doctor because it’s their family tradition. Some students have no doctors in their family and they want to be the first one and to take care of their children and relatives.
Now I am a third-year student of ASMI, therapeutic faculty. In a few years I shall take a diploma of a general practitioner. I shall work at our local polyclinic as a physician. For this purpose, I must gain deep knowledge of medical subjects such as Pharmacology, Cardiology, Urology, Infectious Diseases and others. We have the subject of Psychology in our curriculum which teachers us to understand human behaviour, to deal with patients and gain their confidence. And the patient’s confidence in his doctor is the most “valuable remedy”.
When the academic year is over students have practical training. We work as nurses and doctor’s assistants at the therapeutic, surgical and other departments of ASMI’s Clinical Hospital and learn how to measure blood pressure, take temperature, count pulse rate, give intramuscular and intravenous injections and to take care of patients. Experienced doctors teach us to diagnose and treat different diseases, carry out laboratory analyses and perform medical procedures. Our Clinical Hospital is well-supplied with modern diagnostic equipment and we learn how to use it.
A good doctor must have not only deep knowledge of medicine. He must love people and have a kind heart. It is one of the professions which requires a real calling for it.
