Literature review. Reading is a key activity for
vocabulary enhancement as it exposes readers to a vast array
of words. Research has shown that individuals who read
regularly tend to have larger vocabularies than those who do
not (Nagy & Herman, 1987). Moreover, reading allows
readers to encounter words in various contexts, including
different genres and formats, which further expands their
vocabulary (Nation, 2014). One of the advantages of reading
for vocabulary enhancement is that it provides context for
words. The context in which a word is used can help readers
understand its meaning and usage more effectively. This is
because words often have multiple meanings, and the context
in which they are used can clarify their intended meaning
(Pulido, 2004). Research has shown that readers are more
likely to remember and learn new words when they encounter
them in context (Elley, 1991). Reading can also help readers
learn the nuances of words and how they are used in different
contexts. By encountering words in different contexts, readers
can learn how words can have different meanings and
connotations in different situations (Milton, 2009). Moreover,
reading can help readers develop a more sophisticated
understanding of vocabulary by exposing them to complex
and abstract words that they may not encounter in everyday
conversation (Nagy & Herman, 1987). Writing is an effective
way to enhance vocabulary as it provides readers with an
opportunity to use new words in a meaningful way. When
