OBJECT of the research work is improving critical thinking abilities with case study method.
SUBJECT of the research work is finding creative ways of using case study method during the lesson.
Purpose of this work is to develop and use approaches for active teaching using case studies that instructors can readily adopt as part of their regular teaching practices.
The following methods of investigation were used to solve the tasks:
1) analysis of the scientific and academic literature on Methods of teaching foreign students languages, Linguistics, Linguodidactics, Pedagogy, Psychology in the framework of the problem under study;
2) learning experience in teaching critical thinking with case study method.
3) selecting creative lesson plans that will improve critical thinking.
Theoretical significance of this study includes: theoretical overview of given by Methodists and scientists definitions developing critical thinking, its components and modern tendencies that have been done; specific features of using case-study method ; methodological instructions of using case-studies to improve critical thinking of school learners.
Scientific value of research scientific is the proof of the methodological significance of case-study method for improving critical thinking of school learners.
The practical significance of the research work involves creating methodological recommendations for developing 7-8-9-10-11 grade learner’s critical thinking based on using case study method.
The following tasks were put:
- studying scientific and academic (programs, textbooks) literature about for developing critical thinking, psychological and methodological specifications of teaching FL at the 7-8-9-10-11 grades;
- presenting modern theories connected with advantages of the developing critical thinking, case studies and specifications of teaching FL at the 7-8-9-10-11 grade;
- explaining principles and criteria of selecting case studies and approving their effectiveness for developing 4th grade learner’s listening skills;
- creating methodical instructions how to use case studies in the classroom.
The novelty of research work is to utilize lessons focusing on usage of case study method for developing critical thinking of high school learners based on modern pedagogical theories and methods.
Work structure. The research work consists of two main parts: theoretical and practical, conclusion, list of references and appendix.
In conclusion I want to say that students today are faced with a world of information, and critical thinking skills can help them process it critically and logically.
