Charles Dickens is the great English novelist Charles John Huffam Dickens was born in 7th February,1812 in Portsmouth, on the southern coast of England. The metropolis is positioned in Hampshire, England and is set 70 miles southwest of London. His father, John Dickens, was a naval clerk who dreamed of striking it wealthy. Inspired by his father John Dickens, he created the character of Mr Micawber in David Copper eld. Elizabeth Barrow, Charles' mother, wanted to work as a teacher and school administrator. Characters like Mrs. Nickleby and Mrs. Micawber in David Copper eld and Nicholas Nickleby were inspired by his mother, Elizabeth (Barrow) Dickens. He was the second of eight children, the renowned British author. Names of siblings Alfred Allen Dickens, Alfred Lamert Dickens, Augustus Dickens, Frances Dickens, Frederick Dickens, Harriet Dickens, Letitia Dickens. Despite his parents' best efforts, the household was nevertheless indigent. Nevertheless, at the beginning they were content. Weekend visits to his family, who were boarders in Marshalsea Debtor's Prison in Southwark, south of the City and across the Thames, were made by the boarder. The inspiration and material for many of his later books, including Little Dorrit, Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and especially David Copper eld, came from his traumatic memories of his experiences during this period and his extraordinary memory for detail. He went back to school after three years before starting his writing career as a journalist. Dickens spent 20 years editing a weekly journal, produced hundreds of short stories and non- ction pieces, 15 novels, ve novellas, numerous lectures and readings, was a proli c letter writer, and actively promoted social reforms like education reform, children's rights, and other issues. His development as a man during the reform-minded 1830s, and in particular his work on the Liberal Benthamite Morning Chronicle(1834–1836), had a signi cant impact on his political beliefs. He was rejected as a suitor for Maria Beadnell because his family and prospects were unimpressive; his disappointment at losing her and aspirations of winning her intensi ed his resolve to achieve.
