A) Purpose: To study practical aspects of teaching methodology for TESOL, based in the communicative approach. To learn to critically examine and reflect on your own teaching practice and provide feedback to colleagues.
B) Course Content: The course will be in a seminar-based format. Each week, we will look at a different aspect of second language teaching methodology. We will have group discussions and do activities based on these topics. In addition, each student will give one approximate 20 minute teaching demonstration of a one hour class. You will need to prepare a lesson plan for your demonstration class.

C) Grading - Grading will be done based on students lesson demonstration and plan, class participation, and attendance

D) Attendance - Attendance will be recorded each week in the Zoom class. To be credited for attendance, you must be actively present. Joining the Zoom class, turning off your camera and not participating is not attendance and will result in you being removed from the Zoom class and recorded as absent.

Requirements to participate in class:

1. Have a working camera and microphone, and be prepared to turn your camera on
2. Have your textbook, a pen and paper, or a computer notebook for writing
3. Be in a quiet place and prepared to study – not driving, on a bus, walking down the street etc

If you are unable to follow any of these for personal reasons, please contact me to explain before class.

E) Format – Instruction will be via Remote Learning (weekly Zoom sessions).

F) Textbook - Cutting Edge Students’ Book Pre-Intermediate, 3rd edition. Sarah Cunningham, et al. ISBN: 978 1 4479 3690 9
