INTRODUCTION
(annotation for the dissertation of the Doctor of Science (DSc))

The aim of research work is to reveal the history of the waterways of the Aral Sea and the Amu Darya in the 70s of the XIX century - the first half of the 80s of the XX century.
The object of the research is the history of the waterways of the Aral Sea and the Amudarya in the 70s of the 19th century - the first half of the 80s of the 20th century.
The scientific novelty of the research is as follows:
It is proved that the measures aimed at the development of the Aral flotilla at the end of the 19th-beginning of the 20th century allowed to increase the volume of transportation of cotton, alfalfa seeds, leather, fabric, astrakhan and leather products from the transport offices of the Khiva Khanate and the Amudarya Administration to the Aral Sea Port;
It is substantiated that the beginning of navigation in the Aral Sea at the beginning of the 20th century stimulated the construction of villages and hundreds of houses on the seashore, the formation of private shipbuilding enterprises and joint-stock companies served to create transport infrastructure;
It is substantiated that the formation of the Amu Darya flotilla for the Khorezm oasis was of great progressive importance, because it made it possible for the oasis to reach the railway connecting this region with Central Russia, and also served to create direct safe routes between the cities of the Amu Darya department;
It is proved that despite the fact that the Amu Darya fleet was created in the interests of the state, in addition to the military flotilla, the owners of private ships were also involved in cargo transportation in the Aral Sea and the Amu Darya, in subsequent activities they also worked in the interests of the population;
It is revealed that in 1941, with the outbreak of World War II, despite the fact that the place of sailors and crews of ships who went to the front was taken by women and young children, all serviceable ships in Karakalpakstan were fully used, and as a result of the transportation of troops and cargo by river and sea ​​transport through the Amu Darya and the Aral Sea, this network has become an important part of the transport and means of communication of the Republic of Uzbekistan
