Chapter 4: The ISO 90003 Model
The ISO 90003 is a management standard for quality software products and
services.


System Requirements and Guidelines
The Software Quality Assurance team identifies the processes that will compose
the quality management system. It also describes the sequential structure, as well
as the interaction of processes with each other. The team also implements,
manages, and supports the quality system using effective processes. It improves
the quality management system through effective monitoring, evaluation, and
improvement of processes.
The Software Quality Assurance group also develops a quality management
system for its documents, which describe the life cycle models, software
processes, and the quality system itself. It prepares a manual that documents
procedures, process interactions, and quality system scope.
The team also controls the documents. It approves and distributes the
documents. In addition, it ensures that each stakeholder has his own copy of the
correct version of documents. The group preserves the usability of updated
quality documents. It also maintains quality records to prove effectiveness of
operations.


Management Requirements and Guidelines
The Software Quality Assurance team must promote quality by promoting the
need to meet customer and software product requirements. It must develop a
system for quality management that will support the organization’s quality
policy and objectives. It must implement the system by providing resources and
encouraging people to adhere to the quality system requirements. Lastly, it must
aim to improve the system for quality management by performing regular
reviews and providing resources to improve the quality management system.
The Software Quality Assurance group must be able to identify and meet
customer requirements. In addition, it must be able to enhance customer
satisfaction. The team must also define its quality policy that meets the
organization’s purpose. It must emphasize the need to meet such requirements
and facilitate the creation of quality goals. It must also manage its quality policy
by communicating it within the organization and reviewing it to ensure its
suitability.
The Software Quality Assurance group must draft the quality objectives for all
functional areas and organizational levels. It must plan, implement, and improve
the quality management system. The team also documents and communicates
the responsibilities and authorities. It appoints a management representative to
oversee, report, and support the maintenance of the system to the management. It
also ensures the establishment of communication processes within the
organization.
The Software Quality Assurance team also reviews the quality management
system to evaluate its effectiveness. It examines the review inputs and generates
actions to improve effectiveness of the management system and the software
products. It also acts to address any requirements for resources.
