IELTS Writing Task 2 on Food for Population

Every country wants to reduce its dependency on imports while maximising its exports including items such as food and crops. However, not all countries have the same geographic location, weather condition, technology and suitable lands to produce each type of crop the citizens need. This is why a country should focus more on its overall economic growth rather than using manpower and budget to become self-reliant on food.
To commence with, soil, weather condition, available lands, technology and demographics of a county determine what crops, vegetables and fruits it can produce. Not all countries have the same geographical features and manpower, and thus, it is obvious that the country needs to import some of the items. In many cases, this is rather advantageous than producing or growing crops and then harvesting the grains. For instance, it is impossible for an Arab country to produce all types of foods due to its weather condition. If they focus on growing these food items and engage their manpower to do that, their economic growth would be hindered.
Moreover, a country like Germany and China can focus on manufacturing and industrial innovation while import food from other countries. The ultimate outcome is more beneficial for them. However, this might not be the case for a country that solely depends on the agriculture sector and when a majority of its population are already dependant on it. They can focus on improving their productions, but this model is not suitable for industrial countries. ieltsxpress
To conclude, I believe that free trade and globalisation have made the world a global village. And with the speedy transportation system, food import cost has already declined. Since fulfilling the mass people’s diverse needs for various kinds of food is not feasible for a country, it should focus on its true potential rather than allocating budget and manpower to become self-dependent on food.

IELTS Essay on Food

Some of the food in every country today produced miles away from where it is sold and consumed. This trend requires significant amount of fuel for transportation and storage, resulting to environmental pollution generated from bulk shipping. I strongly agree that each country should source food locally and control food importations.
It is apparent that locally produced food does not need to be transported from which countries it was grown to someone’s dinner table. In this particular arrangement, governments are not putting at risk the health of its people by importing foods from far distance huge factory farms. Firstly, imported foodstuffs contains more harmful preservatives and hazardous chemicals added on perishable crops in order to keep it fresh during transit. Secondly, the economic impact matter most when someone buy a locally produced foods. The farmers from that locality will takes homes the total amount and tend to spend for the salary of local workers. As a result, consumer spending will increase in that community, resulting to a robust economic activities in that area.
Contrastingly, there are several reasons why governments importing foods from other countries, one of which is to give its citizen more variety to choice from. To give you an example, every country has different climate and not all sorts of fruits and vegetables grown throughout the year. Because of imported foods, people from dry places can have fresh oranges, bananas, lettuce or potatoes anytime they want. However, government must impose stiffer charges on importation of food which is abundant in that locality. The Philippines, for instance, this country is blessed with vast rice plains and rainfalls and still importing rice from neighboring countries. The government should spend on research and development on how to expand rice plantation coverage to support the growing demand of rice consumption and not to rely heavily on importations.
In conclusion, when foods are sourced locally there are tendency that foods contain no preservative and pesticide since these will only be sold in a nearby places. In addition, governments should put off or control importation of foods that can be grown or raised in their respective country to strengthens local economy.
