What is rugby?

It is a team sport, which arose in the 19th century in England, one of the forms of rugby-football. From the original rugby there are many related sports.

Rugby match is a competition between two teams, each of which is represented by fifteen players. On the front lines of the field there are H-shaped gates and behind the front lines of the field there are team`s located ladderpoints zone. The main objective of each team is hitting the crossbar or skidding the ball into the enemy zone.

Rugby ball has a shape like a prolate ellipsoid. Length should not exceed 30 centimeters. Previously, to create balls, people used leather, now they use synthetic materials. Modern rugby ball is made of four plates.

The origin of rugby due to a football match, which took place in 1823. During the game, one of the pupils, William Webb Ellis, grabbed the ball with his hands and ran to the enemy zone. By the rules of the match in 1823 it was allowed touching the ball with one hand, but the movement with the ball wasn`t allowed. This story rooted in the culture of rugby, and Ellis became one of the game`s symbols.
